Groupware

Collaborative, groupware and peer-to-peer (P2P) technologies

The objective in this section is to outline issues and give pointers to possible ways forward.

  • There are social, cooperative and competitive dimensions.
  • Groupware and P2P may have subtle differences.

Need: to be able to share different parts of my ePortfolio across different communities having their own "aggregator" of individual ePortfolios, providing a seamless environment of individual and community ePortfolios, e.g. professional communities, communities of practice, organizational ePortfolios used for quality assurance or accreditation - some communities are already using RSS aggregators, but one of the most promising technology is probably the semantic web, starting with (enriched) specifications such as FOAF (friend of a friend)..

A new wiki page could be created here to explain how each of these technologies could be used within e-portfolio systems.

Questions:

  • Which P2P technologies can be profitably used? Bear in mind current popularity particularly with young people.
  • Which groupware, collaborative etc. systems are relevant?
  • How to integrate communication products, logs, output together with other e-portfolio items?
