The SCORM 2004 2nd Edition Conformance Test Suite Version 1.3.3 (Self Test) is being made available to provide organizations with the ability to perform self testing on Learning Management Systems, Sharable Content Objects, Metadata documents, and Content Packages.  The SCORM 2004 2nd Edition Conformance Test Suite Version 1.3.3 (Self Test) (Referred to hereafter as Test Suite) will perform testing to help organizations determine their conformance to the SCORM 2004 2nd Edition (Referred to hereafter as the SCORM).  Please note, this version of the Test Suite is built to assess conformance with the SCORM 2004 2nd Edition.  In no way does the use of this software imply certification to SCORM.

The Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) defines a Web-based learning "Content Aggregation Model" and "Run-Time Environment" for content objects. The SCORM is a collection of specifications and standards adapted from multiple sources to provide a comprehensive suite of e-learning capabilities that enable interoperability, accessibility and reusability of Web-based learning content.

Several aspects specifically addressed by the SCORM are:

  • A common Content Aggregation Model which includes Content Packaging.
  • A common specification for a Run-Time Environment (RTE) that facilitates interoperable communication between Learning Management Systems (LMS) and course content components.
  • A common representation of metadata that can be utilized to promote discoverability and reuse.
  • A common method for representing the intended behavior of an authored learning experience such that any LMS will sequence discrete learning activities in a consistent way.

The Test Suite can be used to assess the conformance to these four main areas of the SCORM by providing five testing components as follows:

  • LMS Conformance Test
  • Content Package Conformance Test
  • Sharable Content Object (SCO) Run-Time Environment Conformance Utility Test
  • Metadata Conformance Utility Test
    Manifest Utility Test

The Test Suite provides a common framework for all of the conformance tests.  Each test includes a step-by-step set of detailed instructions as well as a log of each test action and the outcome.

The Test Suite runs entirely within a Web browser on one local computer.  All of the software is loaded on the local hard-drive and requires no HTTP Web server to run.
