Faculty and Administrators
  • Central management system for all your programs. Foliotek provides a single interface for colleges and universities to manage the portfolio process for multiple programs. An administrator, for instance, would be able to manage the portfolio process for the undergraduate programs, graduate programs and any specialist degrees using one system.

  • Portfolio structure customized to fit each individual program . Every program has its own requirements, policies, standards, and timelines. Foliotek can be configured to reflect program goals rather than an organization changing their program to meet the requirements of a software package.

  • Standards-based assessment . Structure portfolio around state, national, or school standards and objectives. Require that certain artifacts be aligned with standards or let the student choose how to align different parts of their portfolio with standards. Perform online assessment with custom scoring guides built around your standards and portfolio structure.

  • Data collection. Data reporting. Data export. Foliotek collects a diverse set of data about student demographics, student experiences, and progress information. Student profiles are set up to collect custom information for each school. Online surveys can be published for students, before and after they graduate, to collect information about a specific topic. Dynamic reports allow the administrator to see the progress of an individual student, all the students in a group or students across the entire program. Data collected in Foliotek can be exported to MS Excel or ASCII text format for use in other systems or statistical analysis tools.

  • Online collaboration with faculty and students. Online messages and comments integrate with email making it easy to keep in contact with students about their portfolio development and progress. Announcements can be posted on the portfolio home page to keep all users informed of important information or dates. Peer reviews can be initiated by students and faculty to allow students to give feedback on others’ work.

Students
  • Common tools approach . Foliotek follows a common tools approach that allows students to utilize their knowledge of common applications and formats such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and HTML. Allowing users to keep their artifacts in these common formats means they can begin immediately adding artifacts they have already created. They don’t have to learn a special tool or format to create artifacts and their artifacts are in a common format that can be used in contexts outside of the portfolio system.

  • Intuitive interface to create and align artifacts. Foliotek empowers the student to align different elements of their portfolio with standards and objectives set forth by their program. The Standards View in the portfolio allows the student to perform a gap analysis on their portfolio so they can see, at a glance, which standards might need to be addressed more.

  • Presentation portfolios showcase selection of best work. Presentation portfolios are created by the student to showcase themselves to others. Presentation portfolios are separate from the certification portfolios that are created by the school, but they can use artifacts and files that were used in the certification portfolio. A presentation portfolio allows the students to decide on the structure of the portfolio, add specific, rich content to each section, and link to elements that are already in their portfolio. A student may create as many different presentation portfolios as they like and can then share these with others through an online invitation process.

  • File organization made easy . The “Files” section of Foliotek is a private work area that allows students to upload and organize all of their different files. A student can store and manage files in this area without including those files in their certification portfolio. This allows them to have access to multiple drafts or versions of files and then insert the best one into their portfolio at the appropriate time.

  • One tool manages multiple portfolios. Foliotek allows students to maintain multiple portfolios from multiple organizations. That means students might start out with a certification portfolio as an undergraduate, maintain a professional development portfolio throughout their career, and then begin another portfolio as they pursue an advanced degree. Foliotek allows students to share artifacts between these portfolios and export each one as an independent Web site.

  • Online collaboration tools simplify getting feedback on portfolios. The messaging system allows students to contact faculty in the program from within the portfolio system. Faculty can then respond to messages or comments directly on artifacts that have been made viewable in the portfolio. Portfolios can also be shared with peers to receive additional comments on artifacts.

  • Online announcements keep students informed. Every student’s home page has announcements from the different programs that they are a part of. Program administrators are able to post announcements to this section in order to let students know about important events or deadlines.
