Build or Buy? – the Challenge of Developing an ePortfolio to Support the Delivery of Learning and Assessment of Core Skills in Specialist Vocational Environments

by Brendan Tierney — last modified 05-01-2008 15:49

This peper focuses on the collaborative action research project in developing a DIY e-portfolio to support the delivery of Core Skills within a number of vocational areas. The VLE Moodle was chosen as the platform for this e-portfolio. It was attractive to the college and SQA as it is open source, free and therefore readily available to other colleges. Four areas were chosen, to represent each faculty of the college. The subjects were Electrical Engineering, Social Care, Multi Media and Working with Communities, all being delivered at Higher National level and designed to increase employability. Neither the staff nor the students had experience of using e portfolios.
