ALT-SURF ePortfolios seminar report
- This report is the result of the ALT-SURF seminar, namely a briefing paper on ePortfolios and another on Digital Re-positories. In the papers the potential and ultimate goal of using ePortfolios and Digital Repositories for learning and teaching is outlined; the current state of achievements is described, and thirdly the briefing paper concludes with desired next steps to reach the ultimate goals, what conditions need to be in place, what activities need to be set in motion. The papers highlight any apparent differences in approaches be-tween UK and Netherlands as well as opportunities for future collaboration. SURF and ALT will use the conclusions and suggestions as input for joint future development and networking activities.

- This very interesting article compares: 1. the use of generic tools, such as word processing, HTML editors, multimedia authoring tools, portable document format (PDF), and other commonly used productivity tool software. 2. the use of information technology customized systems approaches (CS) that involve servers, programming, and databases for ePortfolios "Our discussion of directions in e-portfolio development should help clarify the differences in the political, human, and technological dimensions of e-portfolio decisions, identifying the trade-offs, strengths, and weaknesses."

Electronic Portfolio in the Netherlands: SURF
- In higher education in The Netherlands a lot of attention has been paid recently to the subject of e-portfolio as a tool for teaching and learning. Some large national projects have explored the possibilities for the application of e-portfolios for assessment and coaching. Most of the academic universities and universities of professional education are coming out of their experimental phase now, and are taking up the challenges of implementation at an institutional level. NL-Portfolio is one of the SURF Foundations special interest groups. SURF is the partnership organisation for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in Dutch higher education and research. NL Portfolio presents in this brochure an up to date overview of e-portfolio developments in the Netherlands through a selection of papers in English written by Dutch portfolio specialists.
