If, like the members of EIfEL, you are involved in the design or use of technologies at the service of individuals and organisations, you know already that we are living in exciting times, full of new opportunities and new challenges. Developments such as Web 2.0, social networks, ePortfolio and federation of services are in the process of transforming the learning landscape in the worlds of education, training and human resource management. Joining EIfEL is the best way to get the best one can expect from the promises of emerging technologies and practices.
How can EIfEL help you to respond to this challenge and obtain the maximum benefits promised by this transformation?
Since its creation in 2001, EIfEL and its members have made a significant contribution to the evolution of learning technology and its practice. EIfEL’s leadership of the ePortfolio movement in Europe is an indication of its ability to anticipate and exploit key trends. We have also contributed to the re-thinking of the quality of learning systems (as Founder Members the European Foundation for Quality in eLearning), as well as to the development and validation of the competencies of teachers, trainers and designers of learning resources and systems and key competencies.
We have made considerable progress on interoperability of information systems for education and human resources, notably through the organisation of Plugfests, occasions to demonstrate how different systems function together, but also through our work with HR-XML, the organisation in charge of the normalisation of information for HR management systems. In addition, we have started to work with such actors as Liberty Alliance on the management of digital identities and the control of access to personal information.
EIfEL, an organisation open to all
EIfEL is now entering into a new phase of its development. Following a fruitful period of working with a small but dynamic group of members, we now wish to welcome as many organisations as possible involved, one way or another, in the design or use of learning technologies. We accept the challenge of reconciling two objectives: becoming an organisation open to the greatest number while retaining our capacity for innovation, exploration and leadership of the transformations to come. To this end we have significantly reduced the organisational membership fee to 750€. (1) Such a tariff has been made possible thanks to the ability of the Institute to generate revenue through events and studies, as well as the support of sponsor members. We have also held the price of individual membership. As a not for profit organisation all the revenues generated are, of course, used to assure the running of the Institute.
By joining EIfEL, you will be able to benefit from the results of the Institute’s activities on a European level, as well as discounts on our events and publications. You will also be able to participate in existing work groups (interoperability, CV Europass and ePortfolio, digital identity and ePortfolio) or to create one. A work group on key competencies will be created at the same time as the conference we shall be organising on this theme in July in England.
